The San Diego Police Foundation announces the appointment of Sara Wilensky Napoli as CEO. Napoli is a senior executive with more than 20 years of experience working with leaders in the business and nonprofit sectors.  She is best known for her position at The San Diego Foundation, where she led the Endow San Diego communications for a campaign that resulted in $175 million in current gifts.

As CEO, Napoli is responsible for leading the strategic direction of the foundation, spearheading fundraising, leading staff and volunteer efforts, and bringing together public and private resources to promote a safer San Diego. Supplying unmet needs for equipment, training and education for the San Diego Police Department is the priority, including SafetyNet: Smart Cyber Choices™, which combats the rise of cyberbullying and Internet crimes against children.

$126,000 Evidence Management Grant Announced

The San Diego Police Foundation announces the funding of a $126,000 evidence management system for the San Diego Police Department. Made possible by the generosity of individual and corporate donors, the new system will digitize the Property Room, boosting the efficiency and effectiveness of a key function of law enforcement.

The tracking system by which evidence is currently received, monitored and used within the department is a paper system. By bringing this one system into the digital age, thousands of officer hours will be freed up annually to address the SDPD’s first priority: responding to emergencies.

A special thank you to Ted and Monica Fogliani, the lead donors for the evidence management system campaign, who created momentum by matching other donors’ contributions dollar–for–dollar. Special funding from the AT&T Foundation completed the campaign.

A press conference was held on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, announcing the gift to SDPD, led by Mayor Sanders, Chief Landsdowne, Sara Napoli and lead donors, Ted and Monica Fogliani. AT&T Foundation was represented by its Executive Director, Ignacio De La Torre.

San Diego Police Foundation’s biggest event of the year—Beyond the Headlines—was a huge success this year with strong community support, as evidenced by the 750 San Diegans who joined us. Held October 20, the luncheon is an opportunity for San Diegans to explore police high– and low–tech operations and meet many of the officers that protect America’s Finest City. This year, the event celebrated with a new venue at the Valley View Casino Center (formerly the San Diego Sports Arena) and raised $68,500 in cash donations with an equal amount provided in generous in–kind support.

SDPF would like to thank its sponsors for all of their continued support: Datron World Communications, Wells Fargo, San Diego Sports Arena and Club 3500, Ranch Events, Sign It, ideaworks, Xerox, Satellite, Allianz Global Investors, Aminpour & Associates, BioMed Realty Trust, Inc., Dr. Seuss Foundation, Procopio, SAIC, CBIZ, Guardian Towing, The San Diego Chargers, Valley View Casino, and Point Loma Nazarene University.

We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to the two Chairmen of the event, SDPF board members Chris Ghio and Ernie Hahn II.

Officers show people behind the scenes

Mark your calendars! The San Diego Police Foundation invites San Diego families to participate in this year’s Inside SDPD, Saturday, January 29 from 9 a.m. to noon at Miramar College. Sponsored by Sempra Energy, Inside SDPD is a dynamic, behind-the-scenes experience that gives community members the opportunity to walk in the shoes of a police officer for just a few hours. San Diegans will have the unique opportunity to participate in use-of-force, vehicle stop, and firearms training activities. They will also meet a member of the K-9 Unit, and experience first-hand what it’s like to be a cop.
