Pacific Beach peeper suspect arrested
Feb. 23 -
A female Pacific Beach resident provided the critical piece of evidence – a photo –
that led to the arrest of Eduardo Castillo Herrarte, 33, for a series of peeping and
sexual assault incidents in the PB area. He is said to be linked to ten cases reported
in the area since April 2006.
In a Feb. 15 news release, police said that in order
to catch the suspect they were going to need the public’s
help. They shared details of the case and released a brief description and
sketch of the suspect. The next day, Detective Garrick Nugent received a call from the PB
woman who had seen an individual who fit the description as recently
as December.
It wasn’t the first time she'd seen Herrarte. The woman also reported an initial
“peeping” activity in Feb. 2005, which resulted in an interview of Herrarte but no further
action. After the initial incident and report, the resident took a photo of Herrarte engaged in peeping activity at a later date, which she was able to provide to detectives.

Hwy 94 fatality might be homicide
Police believe the death of Filirican Torres, 24, which occurred Jan. 10,
on highway 94 around 5:30 p.m., may not have been an accident. She was seen falling from
a moving vehicle traveling eastbound near Euclid Avenue before she was hit by several
other vehicles. Police believe the victim either fell or was pushed from a white boxy
station wagon, similar in structure to the Toyota Scion. If you have any information about
this tragic incident, please contact the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers
at (888) 580-TIPS.
WARNING: Curb-painting scam
Mar. 1 - SDPD is warning residents about a curb-painting scam taking place in various neighborhoods
throughout the city. Fliers are being distributed, without the permission of the City of San Diego,
claiming that SDPD recommends you paint your address on your curb. The individuals distributing these
filers have falsified the recommendation and are using the city's logo to extort monies. Please note: you are not required to pay for such services if you did not agree to them in advance. If you are approached by these individuals, get a description and notify your local law enforcement agency.
Lives saved by K-9 Unit: Priceless!
We're proud of the efficiency and alternative to lethal force made possible by the SDPD Canine Unit. The cost of a trusted canine who serves to save lives is $8,500. These police service dogs typically work until they are about 8½ years old. Each year,
8 to 10 dogs retire and need to be replaced with the next generation of active duty dogs. The Foundation's K-9 Retiree Replacement Program is an ongoing need. Your gifts, large and small, ensure that young and eager dogs step up to take the place of those that reach retirement age. Donate now
